If you are one of the special few who shopped with us last weekend, you know that our luck finally ran out. The rain came. And it was lame. (Just the rain, not the market. It was as wonderful as ever). But have you seen this Saturday's forecast? It's looking splendidly sunny for our End of Season Celebration.

Here's a small sampling of what we'll have for you:

We don't want to jinx ourselves, but we've been blessed with sunny and dry market days all season long. Quick! Find some wood, and knock on it. We certainly just did, because there still remain two market days before we go into winter hibernation. With these chilly temperatures, who can blame us?

December is already here. Can you believe it? In addition to lots of holiday cheer, this season marks the beginning of some changes at your farmers' market.

We hope this email finds you shoveling large amounts of delicious cooked vegetables from your favorite farmers' market into your mouth. If it doesn't, you're already forgiven. There's always next Thursday.

Your Market's mother had a special little habit around Thanksgiving. She would prepare many of the dishes ahead of Thursday, so when the big day came around, just the "easy" stuff was left. The turkey, you know. It's not all that easy, but certainly a simpler affair when the cranberries, potatoes (both sweet and regular), stuffing, and greens are out of the way.

It seemed like the whole neighborhood was at the Market last Saturday! It was definitely a good day to have a big crowd. We had some enterprising local youth come out from Soothing SoapSations. They sold their hand-made soaps all day and went home with some spending money, knowing that hard work really does pay off.

So we've had another week of warm weather--so warm that you could almost imagine it was still summertime! Don't be fooled, though. It's November, and in the afternoon there's a cold wind in the air, and pretty soon it will start to cool down again. But don't you worry. Your farmers' market will run until December 19, rain or shine. There are already changes beginning in the selection of produce from our farmers.

The leaves are falling, there's a chill in the air, and this means that Fall is fast approaching. This weekend, our community will celebrate two important October Holidays. This Saturday is Halloween, so many of you are getting ready to dress up and eat candy all night long. But before your night full of spooky fun, come and celebrate Halloween with your neighbors. After all, you might as well eat something healthy before filling up on sugar!

Good afternoon . . .

Your farmers' market knows you're smart. Like a crow with an eye to the sky, you knew this big storm was coming, so it was easier than a piece of (Watsonville carrot) cake. Downpour? You've got rain boots. Wind gusts? Good thing you trimmed back that tree last month.

Have we got a special treat for you. Two weeks ago, it was the One EPA BBQ. Last week, we had delicious EPA-grown greens from the Hartley Family Backyard Garden. And this week? It's all about the MUSIC.

Good afternoon . . .

You know that autumn has arrived when stores start to display their Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa gear. It's happening already! Can you believe it?

And with this arrival of fall (and more importantly, the holiday season), we sometimes see increased expenses. All that fruit cake, cookies and wrapping paper don't come free. To help us all prepare for this season of spending, this week we're focusing on the value present every Saturday at the East Palo Alto Community Farmers' Market.

Hello!

Things are busy and exciting at East Palo Alto's community space, 2415 University Avenue. This Saturday is looking to be a cooker -- literally! One East Palo Alto will be hosting their Quarterly Membership Event right next to our market, and rumor has it, they'll be grilling up a storm (for members, so think about joining). Become a member, and you'll get a $5 EPA Fresh Check.

Hello there!

It's not often that a loyal shopper such as yourself sends us a note, so when somebody does, we listen. This week, we received a message about purslane -- a relatively unknown vegetable that is featured every week at our Market. It was so useful that we're passing along some key points.

Happy September!

Yes, we are open this Saturday, and absolutely thrilled to feature produce grown right here in East Palo Alto. Food doesn't take a Labor Day off, so stop on by and pick up what you need for that BBQ, cook-out, fancy dinner or quiet evening in. We recommend the yellow corn (for grilling), watermelon (for juicy eating) and peaches (for dessert).

We've got something special for you!

Did you know that we are the best kept secret in EPA? Certainly not a secret to you, since you're lucky to be in the know, but that's what people are saying. So it must be true. They like our friendly vendors, fresh produce, and low prices.

Dear loyal supporter,

I write to you with an update about our beloved East Palo Alto Community Farmers' Market. I am happy to report that because of the dedication of customers like you, tireless market volunteers, and staff from Collective Roots, our market took place this afternoon, as always, from 2pm to 5pm at City Hall.

It's really starting to look like summer around here. We've got delicious fruit, all kinds of tomatoes (even organic heirlooms) and...guess what? Corn! Organic kind, too. It has finally arrived with a great big yellow splash.

And did we mention the new varieties of plums and pluots? Transito Zamudio keeps surprising us every week with versions of fruit that we had no idea that they even existed! And he always keeps the prices so low low low.

Well hello . . .

Family friendly activities have finally arrived at our market! Yes, we've always had fresh fruits and vegetables, but this weekend, we've got plans to bring out the bicycle blender to make delicious fruit smoothies, starting at 2pm. Be sure to come and check it out.
