EPA Market Update (7/25/09): organic vegetables and jam session

Well hello . . .

Are you a fan of the big ORGANIC? It's a good time to be eating without those pesticides and other chemicals, because it's now easier than ever, right here in East Palo Alto. We've been working hard to bring a wider variety of fresh vegetables, at affordable prices, and are pleased to report that we were joined this past Saturday by Rio de Parras, a friendly new all-organic farmer from Watsonville.

She brought with her the most wonderful variety of fresh vegetables, including watercress, golden beets, broccolini, lemon cucumbers, heirloom carrots, and much more. Be sure to come early this Saturday to get your hands on the very best of her scrumptious organic selection.

This Saturday from 2pm to 5pm, as always, we expect to have all sorts of fresh fruits and vegetables, plus fresh-cut flowers and a bit of prepared food:

* new organic veggies, including broccolini, watercress, heirloom carrots (big and purple!), and lettuce;
* plus, organic peppers (serrano and bell), golden beets, and cabbage (yum, yum, yum and yum);
* fresh cut flowers from Montara (pictures here . . . have you seen the gladiolas?);
* tomatoes! (they're getting juicier and juicier);
* freshly-made hummos and other Mediterranean snacks (made right in Belmont, and perfect for appetizers and healthy snacks);
* sweet white peaches, multiple kinds of nectarines, plums and pluots (if you still haven't tried them, check out the white peaches);
* strawberries (from Salinas);
* rich and delicious summer squash (ratatouille, anyone?);
* nopales, chayote, basil, cilantro, cucumbers, broccoli, mint, onions, greens, and other vegetables; and
* much more!

EBT/food stamps, WIC and Senior FMNP checks always accepted.

* WIC: we're happy to accept WIC FMNP market coupons.

Jam Session!
You can enjoy the sweetness of summer fruit all year round by learning to make homemade jam! Come help prepare a batch, and go home with a jar of your very own jam.

What: a fun and interactive jam-making workshop!
Who: any local residents or market shoppers
When: Thursday, July 30th, 6:30-8:30PM
Where: the new Collective Roots office at 1785 Woodland Avenue, EPA
Cost: $7-10 sliding scale to cover materials

¿A Ud. le gustan los productos orgánicos? Es un tiempo bueno para estar comiendo productos sin esas pesticidas y otras químicas, porque ahora es más fácil que nunca, aquí mismo en East Palo Alto.

Trabajamos duramente para traer una gran variedad de verduras frescas, con precios bajos. El sábado pasado, una nueva granjera orgánica y amable de Watsonville vino al mercado.

Ella trajo con ella la variedad más maravillosa de verduras frescas, incluyendo berro, remolachas amarillas, broccolini, pepinos amarillos, zanahorias extraordinarias, y mucho más. Hay que llegar temprano este sábado para conseguir lo mejor de su riquísima selección orgánica.

Este sábado de 2 p.m. a 5 p.m., como siempre, vamos a tener varios tipos de frutas y verduras frescas (incluyendo nuevos productos orgánicos) para su fin de semana:

* nuevas verduras orgánicas, incluyendo broccolini, ejotes, zanahoria (big), lechuga, chile (serrano y bell), remolacha, y repollo;
* flores frescas de Montara (fotos);
* huevos frescos y orgánicos;
* pimientas;
* tomates;
* duraznos, nectarinas, ciruelas;
* fresas;
* vegetales latinos y orgánicos ; y
* mucho más!

Siempre aceptamos EBT/food stamps, WIC y Senior FMNP checks.
