Purslane and Indian peaches

Saturday, September 12, 2009

This week is all about health and indulgence at your EPA Community Farmers' Market. For health, check out purslane, a little-known vegetable with enormous health benefits, sold every week at our market via Tu Universo Organics. To indulge, Transito Zamudio now has Indian (blood) peaches for sale. They are like tangy-sweet globes from up above. Check them out this Saturday.

In addition, we expect to have:

  • organic veggies, including broccolini, watercress, heirloom carrots (big and purple!), and lettuce;
  • okra (come early for the best selection);
  • purslane and bitter melon (the health benefits are beyond description);
  • organic yellow corn (the delicious kind);
  • tomatoes! (they're getting juicier and juicier);
  • freshly-made hummos and other Mediterranean snacks (made right in Belmont, and perfect for appetizers);
  • INDIAN peaches, white peaches, nectarines, and pluots (try them!);
  • strawberries (from Salinas);
  • delicious apples;
  • yummy honey;
  • watermelon;
  • nopales, chayote, basil, cilantro, cucumbers, broccoli, mint, onions, greens, and other vegetables; and
  • much more!
