Bounty of Fall -- rain or shine

Saturday, October 17, 2009

If you were doubting our friendly warnings of the past few weeks, surely you know now that the season of changing leaves has arrived. Boy, was that a storm! It serves as an excellent opportunity for us to remind you that your farmers' market is open rain or shine. Only very extreme weather (even more extreme than that of this past Tuesday) will postpone our operations. Hey, we've all got to eat!

This Saturday, we expect to have:

  • tasty persimmons, just coming into season right now;
  • taro root and leaves (have you tried them yet?);
  • fresh peanuts (you roast them how you like them);
  • tasty sugarcane (yum yum yum);
  • organic veggies, including broccolini, watercress, carrots, and lettuce;
  • okra (come early for the best selection);
  • purslane and bitter melon (the health benefits are beyond description);
  • more greens than you can shake a fist at;
  • tomatoes (they're still delicious);
  • freshly-made hummos and other Mediterranean snacks (made right in Belmont, and perfect for appetizers);
  • strawberries (from Salinas);
  • delicious apples;
  • yummy honey;
  • nopales, chayote, basil, cilantro, cucumbers, broccoli, mint, onions, greens, and other vegetables; and
  • much more!
