Last Farmers' Market Day of the Season on December 19

Saturday, November 14, 2009

It seemed like the whole neighborhood was at the Market last Saturday. It was definitely a good day to have a big crowd. We hand shoppers participate in a fun and useful survey that will help us improve the market next year. We also had some enterprising local youth come out from Soothing SoapSations. They sold their hand-made soaps all day and went home with some spending money, knowing that hard work really does pay off.

If you're a gardener, you know that November is a busy time to get the last of the winter vegetables in the ground while there's still some heat, and before the frost sets in. The fall and winter are also a great time to reflect on last season's harvest and to begin planning next year. We are beginning to plan next year's Market, which will be better than ever. But we are looking for more community members to join our Backyard Garden Network and begin selling at the market. We also want to work with community groups who would like table or help plan special activities and events.

Our last market day on December 19 is fast approaching, and it's time to spend those fresh checks before they expire at the end of the year! Don't forget to mark your calendars, because you can rest assured that on our last day we'll have something special planned to celebrate our community, our vendors and another successful year. :

  • tasty persimmons and apples, Transito Zamudio will be bringing them for three more weeks
  • taro root and leaves (have you tried them yet?);
  • fresh peanuts (you roast them how you like them);
  • tasty sugarcane (yum yum yum);
  • organic veggies, including broccolini, watercress, carrots, and lettuce;
  • okra (come early for the best selection);
  • bitter melon (the health benefits are beyond description);
  • more greens than you can shake a fist at;
  • tomatoes (they're still delicious);
  • freshly-made hummos and other Mediterranean snacks (made right in Belmont, and perfect for appetizers);
  • strawberries (from Salinas);
  • delicious apples;
  • yummy honey;
  • nopales, chayote, basil, cilantro, cucumbers, broccoli, mint, onions, greens, and other vegetables; and
  • much more!

* raíz de taro;
* cacahuates frescos;
* caña de azúcar;
* jicama;
* verdolaga;
* manzanas;
* nuevas verduras orgánicas, incluyendo broccolini, ejotes, zanahoria (big), lechuga, chile (serrano y bell), remolacha, y repollo;
* pimientas;
* miel dulce;
* tomates;
* fresas;
* vegetales latinos y orgánicos ; y
* mucho más!

Siempre aceptamos EBT/food stamps, WIC y Senior FMNP checks.
